Editorial Policy

Editorial Policy

Liverpool News Views is an independent, supporter-run publication providing coverage of Liverpool and English football. Our goal is to deliver accurate, fair and clearly labelled content that reflects the interests and concerns of Liverpool supporters. We operate with full editorial independence and are not affiliated with Liverpool FC.

1. Purpose of Our Coverage

Our editorial focus includes:

  • Liverpool news and developments affecting the club
  • Match reaction, tactical insight and performance analysis
  • Transfer updates, squad building and contract situations
  • SPFL and wider English football context
  • Opinion pieces written from a Liverpool supporter perspective

Our aim is to inform, analyse and offer supporter-led perspectives while maintaining accuracy and responsible reporting.

2. News vs Opinion

We distinguish clearly between the following types of content:

  • News coverage — based on verified information from reputable sources, official statements and directly observable match events.
  • Opinion and analysis — editorial commentary, tactical breakdowns or supporter viewpoints that reflect personal interpretation rather than confirmed fact.

Most articles on Liverpool News Views are opinion-led. Where relevant, we ensure headlines, descriptions and category labels clearly indicate when an article contains opinion.

3. Sources & Verification

When referencing external information, our editors prioritise:

  • Official club and league communications
  • Credible broadcast, print and digital journalism
  • Directly observable match incidents and public data

We do not present speculation, rumours or anonymous tips as confirmed fact. When discussing reports from elsewhere, we clearly attribute the source and identify the material as reporting, not verification.

4. Use of Fan-Submitted Content

Liverpool News Views publishes supporter-submitted articles as part of our platform. All submissions undergo editorial review and are:

  • edited for clarity, accuracy and safety
  • checked for defamation, personal attacks or discriminatory content
  • reviewed for factual correctness where specific claims are made

We reserve the right to decline or revise submissions that do not meet our editorial standards.

5. Accuracy, Updates & Corrections

We strive for accuracy at the time of publication. If an error is identified, we update the article as quickly as possible.

For details on how corrections are handled — including correction notes, factual amendments and modification timestamps — please see our Corrections Policy.

6. Conflicts of Interest

The Liverpool News Views team does not accept payment to promote transfer narratives, agendas or unlabelled advertising. Any sponsored content, if ever used, will be clearly marked as such.

Contributors must disclose any personal or commercial relationships that could influence how their coverage is interpreted.

7. Standards of Respectful Coverage

We do not publish content that is:

  • defamatory or malicious
  • targeted at individuals with abuse, harassment or hate speech
  • discriminatory based on race, religion, gender, sexuality or any protected characteristic

Robust football debate is welcome; targeted abuse is not.
